A client decided her slipcovers needed daily protection from her dogs. Too many muddy footprints, slobber & fur was testing her patience with frequent laundering.
Yes, it seems a waste to cover a new slipcover, but she was determined to find a solution. Protection with a design she can live with daily.
She found beautiful king size linen duvet covers at IKEA. Clipping one side & bottom seams, we expanded the fabric to stretch across the sofa and developed the art of pulling & tucking!
Beginning in the front to touch the floor & back to do the same, we tucked the fabric into the seat back & carefully worked our way around the arms. Allowing it to drape close to the floor here as well. The corner cuts were curved to keep the fabric floating instead of lying on the floor. All sides were given a double fold, 1/4" hem.
Finding the fabric you love can help you live with your furniture on a whole new level. Slipping this off to launder is much easier than the original slipcover. Saving that look for company but loving the look in the mean time, is the goal
The IKEA duvet costs around $90 and ends up being over 200" wide with a seam in the middle. It comes in white & putty color. Think of all the uses this huge piece of fabric can have!
Clip, hem pull & tuck-sofas, chairs, bedding-all can be covered with an easy & relatively inexpensive solution. Wide drapes are a possibility. Are you going to make clothing with this beautiful white fabric? It's another fabric possibility!
We continue to find new ways to use IKEA textiles. Never looking at fabric products as they are! Instead, look at the possibilities of what they can be!
