The perfect solution is to do only a vest for the chair. This sort of slipcover covers the top half of the chair and brightens the whole room.
The dining room above was transformed once the slipcover vests were added to the chairs. We used two painter's dropcloths which added up to being about $50 in "fabric" costs. The 10 oz weight sews beautifully! I prefer my clients to launder them at least twice, with dryer sheets. There are different brands that people like, that have different color variations, but I favor Blue Hawk, sold at Lowe's Home Improvement. It has a grey hue that gives it a linen look and seems to match everything.
